Joint briefing after the talks of the President of Kazakhstan and President of Tajikistan

September 14, 2015

During the briefing the Head of State noted that since the first days of independence, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan share a common policy of mutual trust and friendship.

- Tajikistan had hard times in the early '90s, and we have always been together with the Tajik people. Whenever possible, we provide all possible humanitarian, political and military assistance. Indeed, people in Central Asia always used to live and interact on the basis of mutual respect, - said Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The President of Kazakhstan drew attention to the need for further development of relations between the two countries, especially in view of such favorable factors as territorial, cultural and historical closeness.

- The agreement on strategic partnership will provide more dynamism and intensity to the existing contractual base of 80 documents. Today, Kazakhstan is pursuing a policy of industrial development, and to the possible extent, we invite Tajik private companies to cooperate with us, - he said.

Nursultan Nazarbayev also stressed that the two countries support each other on such global platforms as the OSCE, the UN and the OIC.

- We are grateful to the Tajik side for supporting our candidature for non-permanent members of the UN Security Council. Your country also takes a constructive position on water and energy relations issues, - said the President of Kazakhstan.

In addition, the Head of State noted the importance of Tajikistan’s role in combating international terrorism.

The President of Kazakhstan stressed the need for further development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

- A few days ago we celebrated the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate. We have a common culture and history. For centuries, great events used to happen in our region. Those are the roots that unite our people, - Nursultan Nazarbaev said.

After the briefing Nursultan Nazarbayev laid a wreath at the monument to Somoni.
